The Ministry of Education is building a modern primary school at Stonefields that will be capable of taking about 500 pupils of school years 1-8 (aged 5-12 years). The school will open in February 2011.
An Establishment Board of Trustees has now been appointed and construction should start early 2010. The initial build will be infrastructure (hall/admin/library) for 520 students and classrooms for 260 students. The school will be no more than ten minutes walk from the furthest house, which will allow pupils to arrive on foot which will mean less traffic and parking hassles near the school and less vehicle emissions in the vicinity.
The Establishment Board of Trustees will work with the Ministry of Education in developing, consulting on and confirming an enrolment zone for the school. At the moment it is likely that the enrolment zone would include the Stonefields area and a triangle of adjacent suburb of St. Johns which houses 75 families. More information about the school can be found at www.stonefields.school.nz or through the Ministry of Education on (09) 632 9400
